Going to Malapascua Island, Philipines

Where is Malapascua??

map

This is the guide to Malapascua Island from Cebu. Cebu is one of the most developed provinces in the Philippines with Metro Cebu being the second largest metropolitan area in the Philippines (after Metro Manila). So there are many available flights to Cebu.

Flying from KLIA2, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Flight number Z27113 depart at 6.10pm, arriving to Cebu airport (Mactan-Cebu international airport) at 10pm, around 4 hours flight. There’s no time difference between Malaysia & Philippines.

Touched down to Cebu, there are 2 terminals. Take note that Terminal 1 is for domestic flight, and Terminal 2 is for international flight. This terminal is newly opened in beginning of 2018.

From airport to hotel, we compared price between metered taxi that available in the airport and Grab car. Metered taxi is around 600 and we paid Grab car with 233php to Leope Hotel, Cebu City, from airport, Grab car always a good deal eh….

After checked-in to hotel, we got some foods from 7-11, as most of the restaurants around the hotel are closed.

Next day, woke up in the early morning, we took Grab car to North Cebu bus terminal, total fares 80php. If you wish to get your driver to send you inside the bus terminal, additional 10php is needed. Otherwise, you can just get down from the car at the bus terminal main enterance.

We chose van as our transport to Maya port, this is the port to transfer us to Malapascua Island. There is no fix schedule for bus and taxi, driver will depart when the bus and taxi is full with passengers.

Get into van at 8:20am, our road trip to Maya port begin. Along the journey driver will drop off and pick up some passengers, and we had about 15 mins break time, include light meal and toilet break and finally arrived at Maya port at 11:45am.

The driver dropped us right in front of the ticket counter of the boat counter. According to the ticket booth, boat departs every 30 minutes to Malapascua island, however someone came and approached us, they can depart immediately with higher charges, 300php a person (Normal charge is 100php). We decided to go with them, in fact the boat is sending commodity stuffs (soft drinks and water) to the island. Nevertheless, we were totally fine as the boat is spaciest for us. The journey took approximately 1 hour.

P/S:

  1. Prepare small note for tips, they will demand tips for carrying your luggage.
  2. The path get on to the boat full with stone, watch your steps carefully because it is uneven.
  3. No proper pier on the island, you might get wet when you step down from boat.
  4. When low tide, it will be a small boat to transfer you to island. Extra charges needed – 20php per person
